Storms, Fire Threats, Protect Your Devices, Extend Your Phone Time

Well Done, and a big “Thank You” to all the Firies and Emergency Personnel who have worked so hard to protect people and property during the devastating fires in the Adelaide Hills and around the State.

The current forecast is dry lightening and extreme heat and that can have bad results for you.

• Lightening – can be disastrous to sensitive electronic equipment, it is so powerful that we have heard stories of the household meter box being blown off the wall from close strikes. Whenever there are electrical storms if you can disconnect your electronic devices as being the safest option.  This is, unfortunately not always possible, you may not be home to unplug everything, you may be trying to charge your phone because it is almost flat, or monitoring the weather or fire situation close by.

  CONSIDER USING AN UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS) OR AT LEAST A POWER SURGE FILTER BOARD

  Please note that the UPS does not extend your use of equipment for extended periods, it is meant for protecting your devices from shock and to allow shut down of your computer or other devices in a proper manner to reduce chance of data loss.

   

• Fire – can be devastating to all, but even if you are not under threat, it can impact on you. Most likely if there is fire in the area the authorities will switch off the Electricity to prevent further spread of fire.  This can have an impact of communications, your computers and TV suddenly won’t have power, so more likely you will rely on your mobile phone to keep in touch with news and your family.
  Unfortunately, at this very critical, life threatening time, it will be “Murphy’s Law” that your phone will start running out of charge, really quickly. The most convenient and easy way to extend the use of your mobile phones and other devices such as tablets is to use a Power Bank.
  The idea being is that you keep the power bank charged at all times and in an emergency (or at any time your device is getting low on power) you connect up and recharge your device from the power bank. During Bushfires and storms the power can be out for long periods of time, and being prepared with a power bank can keep you safer.
